Easy at first, but very soon challenging. Mathinary has been tested on the following phones: HTC Legend, Wildfire, Desire LG Optimus Samsung Galaxy S2 Mathinary requires Android 2.2 or above. Living Maths Olympiad 2012

This is a notice from Living maths ( www.livingmaths.com ) FYI

Dear Maths Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce that the Olympiad papers/notices/resources etc. are available for download!

We have decided to move away from making a CD this year and we are allowing schools to download all the content.  The Olympiad caters for ALL learner abilities from grade R up to grade 9. Last year we had about 160 000 South African participants and about 7000 international participants.  This year we hope to have many more.

You will find a folder with notices for South African notices - these notices tell you about the event and there is also a set of instructions on how to run a hassle-free event.

The Olympiad materials have been placed in a dropbox folder.  Please feel free to forward this link to any teacher/colleague or organisation that would encourage learners to think!

What does it mean to give

Ever wonder about those people who say they are giving more than 100%? We have all been to those meetings where someone wants you to give over 100%.

How about achieving 103%?

Here's a little mathematical formula that might help you answer these questions:

ASSOCIATE LECTURER/LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER: MATHEMATICS EDUCATION (3yr contract)


The Wits School of Education is seeking to appoint a suitable candidate at Associate Lecturer/Lecturer /Senior Lecturer level in Mathematics Education to contribute to the School's teacher education, postgraduate programmes, and research

activities.


Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate must meet the following criteria to be appointed:


Associate Lecturer:

Master's degree in an appropriate field and current registration for a PhD

Evidence of research ability or potential

A track record of competent teaching in the disciplinary area at school level and/or in higher education


Lecturer:

PhD in the appropriate field

Evidence of research ability or potential (a publication record would be an advantage)

A track record of competent teaching in the disciplinary area, at school level and/or in higher education


Senior Lecturer:

PhD in the appropriate field

An independent research profile and proven publication record

Capacity to teach and supervise at the tertiary level, preferably must have a sustained record of research supervision.

A track record of competent teaching in the disciplinary area, at school level and/or in higher education

Famelab our very own science idols competition

Hi All 
South Africa is in the process of joining Famelab, an international competition profiling working scientists, researchers and young professionals. The competition is specially designed for young scientists to *communicate* their work in a charismatic and interactive manner, it is the 'Pop Idols' of Science. Finalists will represent South Africa at the final in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. 

The first heats are scheduled for April 2012. The aim is to present your research or topic of interest in a fun and exciting way on tv

Equal Education urgently seeking part-time Maths and English teachers

Equal Education (EE) is a social movement campaigning for quality and equal education in South Africa. Our head office is based in Khayelitsha.

 

EE runs a post-matric programme for 20 of its members, known as the Community Leadership Programme. The programme combines academic tutoring with political leadership and training. The aim of the programme is to build a cohesive group of young activists committed to the ideals and work of Equal Education, and to their place in it, and equipped with the academic capability needed to progress individually and collectively. At the end of the academic year, participants re-write a number of their subjects.

   

We are urgently seeking motivated and dedicated individuals to teach Mathematics (Maths and Maths Lit) and English (Home Language and First Additional). The positions are part-time and remunerated. Classes run in the mornings from 8h30 to 13h00. The academic component of the programme is based at 6 Spin Street, Cape Town

 

In addition to the minimum contact time required for each subject (plus-minus 4-5 hours a week), teachers are expected to submit teaching plans (in line with curriculum and WCED requirements), and set and grade tests, exams and assignments. Given that participants submit new School Based Assessment (SBA) marks, teachers will also need to ensure that portfolios and mark sheets are compiled for the purposes of external moderation. Applicants should preferably have 2-3 years teaching experience. Retired teachers are encouraged to apply.
